About the exhibition:
Sentences are becoming harsher and the Swedish prison system is expanding at record speed, but what is life like on the inside? American artist and activist Jesse Krimes, Petronella Petander and Isaac Grünewald meet Magnus Bärtås and six anonymous inmates from Kalmar Prison in a group exhibition about crime, punishment and imprisonment.

At present, one of Sweden’s largest prisons is being expanded in Halltorp outside Kalmar. This forms part of the most extensive prison expansion in the country’s history, increasing capacity from today’s 9,000 places to 29,000 within ten years. The need to incarcerate people is growing, yet in public debate about crime and punishment the perspectives of inmates are often absent. How do they experience life in prison? How do they view their lives and their future?

The group exhibition ‘Det sista straffet [The final punishment]’ brings together Swedish and international artists with personal experience of deprivation of liberty. The exhibition’s central work is based on Kalmar konstmuseum’s co-creative art project ‘Från anstalten till museet [From prison to the museum]’, in which artist Magnus Bärtås worked together with inmates from Kalmar Prison.

Curatorial Text:

What is the nature of your own family’s history? Surely, it is a history of security and love, pain and reconciliation, drama and peace? All the things that have shaped you and the life you lead.

In the spring of 2026, an exhibition about the family ‘Family – For Better or Worse’ is set to open at Sven-Harrys Konstmuseum. This exhibition offers an account of how our identities and personal histories are shaped by our families.

Paintings, photographs, sculptures, and contemporary expressions all present depictions of the relationships that made us who we are. Together, works by classic pioneers and contemporary greats portray the family that each of us belongs to.

Malga Kubiak in ‘Blow the Boutique’

'Ego', Malga Kubiak, 1988

Curated by Emily Fahlén of Mint konsthall, ‘Blow the Boutique’ presents Malga Kubiak’s video series ‘The Egotrip Collection’ (1984-1994) along with pieces by Keira Fox and Ksenia Pedan. The exhibition will be on view from April 30 – June 13 at anorak in Berlin.

Exhibition text:

Of joy, sex, destruction and the mystery of time, Blow the Boutique presents Malga Kubiak’s legendary video series The Ego Trip Collection (1984–1994), a new performative intervention by Keira Fox on the opening night – including audio in collaboration with Sean Colum – and installations and paintings by Ksenia Pedan. In The Ego Trip Collection, Kubiak confronts the viewer with existential questions through a rapid montage of images, black humour, and explicit imagery. Together, the works form a matrix in which the boundaries between life and art collapse in a flickering, live edit.
