Filmform (est. 1950) is dedicated to preservation, promotion and worldwide distribution of experimental film and video art. Constantly expanding, the distribution catalogue spans from 1924 to the present, including works by Sweden’s most prominent artists and filmmakers, available to rent for public screenings and exhibitions as well as for educational purposes.
Like Themselves explores the idea of bodily habitus, of conduct, of generational transmission. In the video, we follow a girl in Nazaré, who has learned the work of a ‘beach attendant’ while we watch an old woman doing the same task. A daily scene which, in its naturalness, reveals essential questions of identity and human nature. The similarity between the 2 characters is such that one could be the youth of the other or vice versa; they seem to form two ages of one single being.
Noemi Sjöberg uses the video medium to observe and put into perspective the reality that surrounds her. Always looking for situations that break with the ordinary. She has filmed in many countries: Turkey, Japan, Iran, USA, Morocco, Egypt, India, China, Mongolia. Traveling sharpens her senses and forces her to be in a deep state of observation. 3 axes are central in her work: the human condition as time passes; the altered perception of reality and the sensory immersion that sharpens our senses.
Her work has been seen in Sweden: Färgfabriken Norr Östersund,Vandalorum Värnamo, Skanstulls tunnelbanestation Stockholm, Biografen Sture, Cinemateket “Out of Place” program Stockholm.
