Opus is an experimental video about violence and power, which is expressed in symbolic imagery. The film language challenges concepts of power in images of chains and when a mouse in lifted up in its tail and screams helplessly. The music has a nervy, creepy feeling, expressing fear and terror. I had many thoughts about violence and torture when I made this video and this is reflected in the overexposed images, as a painted flow of injustices. This is a recurring theme in my videos and is treated in an earlier video “I saw”, which portrays the unimaginable violence after the collapse of Yugoslavia. (A video which was selected by the Netherlands’ Media Centre to be part of a compilation tape and which was shown at public institutions in Holland).
