The Cité Europe shopping center is located next to the French terminal of the Channel Tunnel between France and the UK, outside the city of Calais. In the film Cité Europe we are guided through the outskirts of the shopping mall; the desolate backsides and the hidden corners of the architecture. The security situation in the area connected to immigration have changed the landscape and created a new geography. Forests have been removed or fenced in and artificial lakes have been constructed in an attempt to keep the boundary zone that the tunnel represents under control. Thus, the shopping mall, tunnel terminal and the surrounding landscape produces social exclusion; fences, walls, barriers and security guards contribute to exclude some people and include others.
