Guillermo Álvarez, a Columbian with a background in theatre and film, worked in the Stockholm subway in the 1970s. During the same period he also attended film school Dramatiska institutet. After studying in New York the filmmaker lived in Paris before ending up in Stockholm. Guillermo Álvarez currently lives in Bogota.
Álvarez was one of the people behind film co-operative Cineco (Cinecoperativo), founded out of the need to be heard. At the time, the filmmakers faced problems of there not being room for multilingual films.
