Feasting Junta shows the leaders of Chile’s military dictatorship sitting together at a big, lavish dinner. As the film goes on, they slowly transform into terrifying animal-like monsters, showing their true, brutal nature. They go on to destroy the country’s books and art, leaving nothing but ash and dust behind. But the film ends with a spark of hope as condors appear to take revenge on the oppressors.
The film is made using older, imperfect AI animation tools. The glitches and rough edges are not mistakes, but imperative to the aesthetics of the film. The result is something strange, unsettling, and darkly humorous. This film is personal for Córdova Rudstedt, whose father fled Chile after Pinochet’s coup in 1973. Through satire and surreal imagery, the film asks questions about power, cruelty, and resistance.
