Feminism and weapons on export is a 50 minutes essay film on hypermasculinity, cold war patriarchal paranoia, state gender roles, militarism, rearmament, how war produces gender and Sweden’s contemporary feminist foreign policy in relation to the country’s high arms export. The story starts with my own experience of growing up in southern Gotland, a militarized island between Sweden and the Soviet Union during the last years of the cold war 1975-1990.
