Människorna och valen
BY
Peter Larsson

A whale had floated ashore on a beach and people went to see it. It was the weekend in the fall and people had brought their blankets and picnic baskets. You could not exactly say what it was but there was a special kind of atmosphere and expectation. Besides, it was fun that something was going on at all.

About the artist

Peter Larsson

Born in 1979 in Örebro, Sweden. Lives and works in Stockholm.

Peter Larsson is an artist and animator that predominantly experiments with stop motion and cut out animation. His education includes a BA and MFA fine art, Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, Sweden and studying at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver BC, Canada and at Gotland University, Visby, Sweden.

His stop motion based practice is a hands-on process where the material is co-creator and becomes the body for severe formulated situations, emotions and states. The cinematic language is surreal and can refer to horror films, folk tales and abstract painting.

Larsson’s first film Mannen som inte kom nånstans (2005) was nominated for a Guldbagge for the Best short film and in 2016 his film Forgotten Reason was awarded Best Nordic Short at Nordisk Panorama in Malmoe. It has since been screened at film festivals worldwide. Lately, he has also been interested in finding new ways to show his animations, for example using animation and sculpture in installations and projected video for various musical performances.

In addition to film Larsson works with graphics, illustration, and collage. He conducts a label with a friend where they release music on cassette tapes and publish fanzines and artist books.
