Eva Quintas is an artist living in Montreal. Her boyfriend Michel is a poet and she works for a cultural organization. Her unsuccessful travels to Spain to search for relatives are intertwined with comments on her trips in Europe and Guatemala. She looses money, drinks too much and discovers that the film in her camera is black. The narrator tells about her photonovel made together with Michel – a fiction with liquidations of businesses and forgery artists – as well as her meeting with Joel, a mysterious man who lives alone on a little island in a lake in Guatemala.
