This video is filmed at a gym. We see two legs, running (white gymnastic shoes and white pants). We see them from behind; only the foots and a small part of the legs are visible. The rhythm is slowed down and the contrasts are low. A bright light is coming in from right side. I show this work on mini LCD screen. (ca 10x16cm)
Born 1973 in Martigny, Switzerland. Lives and works in Uppsala, Sweden.
Jessica Faiss is a painter, photographer, and video artist. Her education includes an MFA from Konstfack, University College of Arts Crafts and Design, Stockholm, and Tohoku University of Art Craft and Design, Yamagata, Japan, among others. Previous solo exhibitions include Konsthall Jönköping, Sweden, Galleri Lars Olsen, Copenhagen, and RGB Neighbors Film-videokunstfestival, Leeuwarden, Netherlands, among others. Since 2017 her video work Voyage is displayed at Stockholm Odenplan subway station, giving the commuters a feeling of being in a green forest in the summertime.
The movement of time and our place in it, are recurring themes in Faiss’ artistry. Previously she worked with painting. When she dared to take the step into the video world, she projected a moving picture on her paintings and something happened there. It became important for Faiss to keep the idea that the video work was not like a movie, that it was without narrative and more like a painting. She is inspired by art that opens up inner spaces or states, where people can have time for reflection.
