About the screening
IDFA Meets Art Collective for Peace explores the theme of protest through the eyes of three filmmakers. The films examine the vital role protest plays as a response to the human need to come together in solidarity and act collectively toward a common cause. The programme includes Avalancha (2023), The Building and Burning of a Refugee Camp (2024), and concludes with a special sneak preview, followed by a Q&A with the director.
Avalancha by Daniel Cortés
This experimental film by Daniel Cortés Cortés highlights collective mourning as a form of resistance. Archival footage of Colombian funeral and protest marches is woven together to reveal the cyclical nature of violence, oppression, and uprising in the region.
The Building and Burning of a Refugee Camp by Dennis Harvey
The story of three asylum seekers who build a temporary camp in Dublin to protest the lack of shelter. As an anti-immigration activist targets them via social media, the situation escalates, exposing the volatile interplay between protest, counter-protest, and online incitement.
