Second Nature I, is part of a series of works based on the documentation of a group of individuals dreaming of a shared existence in nature, inspired by hunter-gatherer cultures. It is a contemporary record that highlights our tendency toward irrationality and our search for meaning in challenging times—times in which nature often becomes secondary.
Second Nature I, is constructed from a photogrammetry of a peat hut built in 2017. The hut was dismantled in 2021 following a court ruling related to shoreline protection legislation. Photogrammetry, as the name suggests, is a three-dimensional coordinate measuring technique that uses photography as its primary method. The technique is based on triangulation, allowing spatial data to be captured from images.
The work also includes Second Nature I, a multichannel sound composition. It features the Mellotron—an early electroacoustic instrument that can be described as a precursor to the sampler. The piece incorporates pre-recorded sequences of bumblebees from 1980, preserved and recreated using vintage technology.
