HIDE

Set I
BY
Gustav Sparr

A man is filling a brown paper bag with his breath and smashes it with his hand. The bang results in a total collapse of the man himself, a sudden expansion ending in emptiness. A magnifyer zooms out and shows the events took place within the flash-program. The man breaking into small counterparts as flash-symbols quickly fills up the programs library. The timeline marker is dragged backwards and forwards, creating a breathlike pumping of wholeness and fragmentation.

About the artist

Gustav Sparr

Born 1977 in Huddiksvall, grew up in Nynäshamn. Master of Fine Arts degree in Umeå 2007. He is working mainly with an extended vector drawn animation-cycle, as well as graphics, in a kind of illustrative emblem-making, dealing with information and language as well as with identity and self-symbols. Through the use of generative formulas following compositional rules, puzzlelike narratives are constructed. Using snippets of literature and icons from popular culture, Sparr mixes them like a DJ in his animated videos with a critical wit. His work has been shown in many screenings and film festivals across the globe.
