The original idea was that ‘Puberty’ (Munch’s naked girl) and I would sit on each side of the bed, in the room. We would sit there and wait for eachother, in the same room. It didn’t work. We would sit there and wait for eachother, the girl and the middleaged woman, in the same room. It didn’t work. I left the bed and got behind the camera. I started a conversation with the girl. There was no script. There were constant changes and I let them be, day after day. My hands got coal black, and suddenly the girl’s hands were too. The only thing I knew was that she couldn’t freak out, change into something completely different, she couldn’t fly away like a bird and disappear. I stuck with the bed and the girl. In the end she got tired of existing just for me. To show off in front of the camera and constantly make things up. So she took help from her old shadow and layed down to rest.
