Filmform (est. 1950) is dedicated to preservation, promotion and worldwide distribution of experimental film and video art. Constantly expanding, the distribution catalogue spans from 1924 to the present, including works by Sweden’s most prominent artists and filmmakers, available to rent for public screenings and exhibitions as well as for educational purposes.
A speculative visual and sonic fiction about silicon-based lifeforms, journeyed through five ecological stages: submarine, earth, living sand, dust, and not-earth.
We are wrapped in a digital shell of cloud computing, complex online interactions and interconnected networks, all of which are facilitated by silicon. Like a diatom, the extension of human form physically beyond carbon is already happening. We are becoming silicon-based lifeforms – our bodies are made of data and our minds are granular.
Machine learning, as well as 2D and 3D AI lenticulations, is utilised on a dataset of diatoms to illustrate the concept of organosilicon configurations and animate them as living entities.
Edy Fung is a post-disciplinary artist, curator and music composer. Her current research focuses on the origins of machine electronics, logic and philosophy of information. With interest beyond the anthropocentric perspectives, she works with sound, text, documentation, archive, installation, sculpture, public intervention and transmission art. Together with her sonic project Quantum Foam//QNTMFM, her practice seeks to explore and address current technological paradigms and the resulting epistemic limitations.
Fung’s work has been presented at museums, art and music contexts internationally, including the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Somerset House Studios, FACT Liverpool, MUTEK Montréal, Galway International Art Festival, Fylkingen Stockholm, Nobel Week Light, Royal Hibernian Academy, CCA Derry~Londonderry and STATIC Complex. Her sound composition has been broadcasted on Resonance FM, Hong Kong Community Radio, CAMP FR, Domes FM, RTÉ Pulse and featured at The WIRE’s Below the Radar 39. Fung is currently a resident composer at the Elektronmusikstudion EMS Sweden (2023-) and artist-in-residence at Goethe Institut Studio Quantum (2023-).
