Living Images is a film essay titled after the book of the same name by the late Janica Tomić, a professor of Scandinavian film and literature who passed away shortly after the book was finished, and before it was published. Shot between Zagreb and Stockholm, the film is the author’s tribute to the person who introduced him to the world of Scandinavian cinema. The film was developed at the Documentary Film School run by the film association Restart.

The members of the jury of the Croatian Film Authors and Producers Association describe the film in the following way:

“The narrative voice, which at first appears meditative, gradually shifts into a personal testimony, building emotion unobtrusively yet steadily. The combination of Croatian and Swedish further enriches the film: through the way the languages alternate and complement one another, feelings and memories connected to different spaces and times are revealed. Through the portrait of another person, the film simultaneously becomes a self-portrait — a personal reflection concealed within the carefully constructed relationship between narration and image.

The film brings together seemingly opposing elements: it is contemplative yet direct; gentle yet precise; visually considered yet emotionally open. Living Images brings freshness to both its motifs and its expression, confirming Tibor Đurđev as an author who confidently connects form and content into a fully rounded cinematic experience.”
