FILMFORM EVENTS FEBRUARI 2009

Actions – political actions and performances
In countries where democracy does not exist and people are oppressed, political actions become a way to put forward opinions and to protest against the powers that be. In Sweden, the interest for this art form has increased lately, among both artists and curators. The actions are ways to express one self, examine situations and expose one self to meetings in unprotected areas. The public space such as the street, the marketplace or the department store is transformed into a natural stage. Even the private home might be more interesting for an artist than art centres or galleries. Art is displaced and barges its way, picks a fight and questions. Few performances and political actions are accessible after the actual event. This screening is an opportunity for you to watch some of them.
Filmform has collected a number of videos, film and documentations.

The programme is screened only once at the Cinemateket,
The cinema Sture, Birger Jarlsgatan 41, Sunday 22th of February at 2 pm.

QM at NK (A Queen of Mud Action) - Ann-Sofi Sidén
1989, 4:27 min, 4:3, colour, stereo, DVD
QM visits the NK department store, hoping that a perfume might bring back lost or repressed memories. Scents have an uncanny ability to transport people through time and space. The visit takes time in the narrow time frame available before Professor Johnsson will send her into outer space in order to mediate the human experience...
"[QM was] seen in the perfume department at NK in Stockholm. Naked except for where the mud covered her body, QM went to the counter, asked for a Chanel perfume, and stuck out her muddy arm to test it. There is something very touching about the picture, of this monster who steps into a haven of cleanliness only to be quickly thrown out by ABAB security guards." Milou Allerholm

The Artist's Song - Lilibeth Cuenca
2007, 4:20 min, 16:9, colour, stereo, 35 mm film transferred to DV
“In the film, "The Artist's Song", the artist sings about (in) famous works from the history of art which have influenced the concept of art, just like the performances quoted earlier. The film also deals with an artist's dream of fame and immortality as an incentive behind the works. The film shows the artist at the museum Glyptoteket in Copenhagen, dressed as a sculpture on a pedestal and surrounded by classicistic sculptures. Her descriptions of the competitive art scene, the various positions, the artist's dreams and ambitions become both general and personal statements. The film is part of Lilibeth Cuenca's work with identity, whether it is nationality, gender, religion or as in this exhibition – the identity as an artist.” Birgitte Kirkhoff

Der Mythos des Fortschritts - Klara Liden
2008, 3:30 min, 4:3, colour, stereo, DV

Dickens, 'Tale of Two Cities' The video is produced in New York. Music by Andreas Nelson och Paul Sigerhall.
