and guests at Klarabiografen (Klara Cinema) in Stockholm
- Dorte Olesen presents
highlights from The Filmform Archive
Filmform was founded in 1950 and is one of the
oldest archives in the world that collect video art
and experimental film. They promote, distribute and
preserve Swedish art film.
The idea to invite special guests to curate programmes,
with material chosen from the archive, has been considered
at Filmform for a long time. The intention is to let
the archive's material be filtered through different
people's experiences, interests and reflections. As
readings vary from one person to another and change
over time, archives should be used over and over again.
Filmform's archive contains a rich variety of expressions,
techniques and themes - with Swedish experimental film
and video art from 1924 until today.
The programme is curated by Dorte
Olesen, choreographer, born in Denmark, lives
in Stockholm. Worked at leading theatres in Sweden as
Dramaten, Moderna Dansteatern, Stockholms and Göteborgs
Stadsteater as well at. 2006 she had a residence at
Dansens Hus in Stockholm and recieved a prize for the
best stage happening of the year for her performance

presents Out of Place
Many people’s daily lives are characterized by
a constant search for identity and sense of belonging.
This programme focuses on video works where the feeling
of being an outsider is prominent and where the human
search for belonging is palpable, whether it concerns
family members, or the question of one’s own identity.
The contributors all have something in common, they
depict other cultures than the Swedish one and look
at Sweden from a different point of view.
Programme:
Dorinel Marc:
Mission Impossible, Sv, 1996-97, 2:40 min
Joanna Lombard:
Details from the future, Sv, 2007, 4:13 min
Åsa Elzén and
Markus Wetzel:
I’ll be you if you’ll be me – The
Swimmer, Sv/US, 2007, 3:40 min
Paula Urbano: Her
Life, Sv, 2008, 11:55 min
Sean Rogg: When will
it hit me?, Sv/UK, 2001. 13 min
Noemi Sjöberg:
Tehran, Es, 2005. 5:11 min
Runo Lagomarsino:
Notion of Conflict, Dance of the Piñata, Sv 2004,
3:11 min
Felice Hapetzeder:
Man´s World, Sv, 2006, 9 min
Maja Borg: Ottica
Zero, Sv/UK, 2007, 13 min
Total length: 70 minutes.
The title is taken from Edward W. Said’s memoir
“Out of Place”.
”Nationality, background, real origins and past
actions all seemed to be sources of my problem; I could
not in any convenient way lay the ghosts that continued
to haunt me from school to school, group to group, situation
to situation.”
“To me, nothing more painful and paradoxically
sought after characterizes my life than the many displacements
from countries, cities, abodes, languages, environments
that have kept me in motion for many years”
“It was also at this point I felt that coming
from a part of the world that seemed to be in a chaotic
transformation became the symbol of what was out of
place about me.”
Curator Anna Linder. Thanks to
Camilla Bauer for translation and recommending “Out
of Place”.
